Obama to sponsor Nascar
July 11th, 2008
US Presidential Candidate Barack Obama appears to be planning to sponsor car #49 (Kenny Schrader) at the Pocono race on August 3rd. This inspired Conan O’Brien to say
“Barack Obama is campaigning very hard, going everywhere these days to get the vote out. Barack Obama’s staff recently announced that Barack is planning to hold a campaign event at a NASCAR race. Yeah. The event will be called ‘Meet your first black guy.’”

And have Lewis Hamilton driving it in further campaigns?

Other than the publicity he gains now as the story breaks I have my doubts whether this is worth the effort.
BAM Racing hasn’t raced since March for lack of money and with the car out of the top 35 in points the chances of it getting into the filed are slim to none.
That aside, as seen here, and here his followers aren’t especially enamored with the idea.
WARNING: Both threads are populated with the typical misinformed NASCAR/auto racing haters.

@ bion: No this is weird to picture. Since when do politicians sponsor F1 cars?
Although I don’t think Obama’s Nascar sponsorship would give him many brownie points.

Well, the sponsorship was offered to him, but he declined. Probably won’t swing many republican’s from the deep south that a presidential candidate thinks he’s too good for NASCAR..
He seems bent on telling everyone how flawed this war is– without giving any idea’s on how to get out of it.

Yeah That’s pretty funny. Obama is on fire right now running on all 8 cylinders.

Question?
Is a NASCAR hater another name for a racing fan?
Wait, don’t answer that.
My kleenex tissue landed on the track and it caused another yellow flag.
Good thing ’cause the networks needed a commercial break and a driver was about to get a 2 second lead and last but not least, I need more kleenex.

Is a NASCAR hater the same as an auto racing hater??
I’d shed a tear if it was true. Damn, my Kleenex tissue has landed on the track and…yes, we have a yellow flag.
Fair enough I guess, the networks need a commercial break, NASCAR needs to reign in the guy who had a 2 second lead and I need more Kleenex.
