Nascar franchising
November 6th, 2006
Interesting speculation on the Full Throttle blog over Nascar’s tentative look into the concept of franchising teams. Their problem is that as costs to enter Nascar are relatively low, and as the audience is enormous, more and more companies are looking to enter the series leading to increased track congestion.

Thanks for the link to Full Throttle, exposure is always welcome.
It’s not so much company’s that want to enter NASCAR, in fact some big name sponsors are pulling out, the problem are all the new teams that are arriving on the scene.
With a field set at 43 cars there may be as many as 50 attempting to make each race next year. They may end up with some big money teams and their sponsors left out some weeks.
I will take issue with your “relatively low” assertion. As compared to a half a billion spent on an F1 team I guess you could say $80m plus million for a four car NASCAR team is cheap. But it’s not pocket change either.
BTW my other home, Asian Motor Sports is up and running after moving away from its former free host.

Old, tired and used race car drivers will always find a home in NASCAR.
