Indian Grand Prix?
November 9th, 2006
Bernie has been talking up a Grand Prix in India for 2010, and I suppose it was only a matter of time before the F1 circus visited there. With a billion people (give or take a few hundred million), India is the next great untapped market after Turkey and China. If our statistics are anything to go by, there’s already a massive F1 fanbase in India - it is the 9th most popular country for visitors to this site.

Interesting thought - but even if they do it, I’d wonder if it will be worth spending the $200-300 million. India ain’t Bahrain or China yet

F1 needs to get out of Europe coz of the anti tobacco ad stance. hence they need to be seen in asia etc. howver what will we gain by hosting a race? do we not have other infra issues to tackle first
lets host some a1 races first

India has a tobacco ad ban too … (they’ve even gone to the extent of trying to ban smoking in movies..)
Heavy infrastructural problems, they’ll need to build an airport that can handle the F1 jumbo’s. Regional political wars will prevent it for sure.
BTW, I remember reading about Bernie visiting Chennai’s Irungattukottai track as early as 1991. Rumors run back a couple of decades.

i also support thefact that india sould hav a f1 track.
i am an architecture student, and for my final year thesis i would like to design a f1 track. but i hav no info at hand. i mean wat are the different propsed sites in india. i hav heard that hyderabad, bangalore and chennai are the most talked abt cities in terms of the city to host. but as the f1 boss himself prefers delhi, i feel delhi should host it.
i would love to have any information regarding f1 in india. please drop in an e-mail to me at mehraankur2001@gmail.com

i’m trying to get f1 back to africa, south africa. f1 (and motorsport in general) has huge following and history here. with 2010 fifa world cup, SA will prove that international events can take place here. the infrastructure has been approved by fifa and will be improved further in preparation. i will bring f1 to SA if it’s the last thing i do. i just need to find out how…? i’m working on it.

Ahh………..
Indian GP…….thats sound ausome…………well i think the right place to put it up is Bombay…….and its due to get a new airport in the near future, which can cater to the F1 Jumbo and costoms….It has a Port too so it can cater to the shipping cargo as well…….
It can be a cost efficent way as well…. Like a Street Circuit can Be used……… There is The Bombay-Pune Highway which may also be used in such a event……..a curcuit can be made around it……
Labour is also no problem……the largest slums r thr………so job vacancies can easily filled as well……….
There r a host of amazin hotels thr and so it makes a really nice venue for the Indian GP……..
This cuircuit may also hold A1 GPs……………..
Being the financial capital it needs to host events like this….. too make it a brighter spot on the map…..

Well Well Welll … i saw all the comments posted by you guyz , if you think about the Economics, then you realize that just because of Indian GDP Growth all the Major Automobile Companies are showing up , so we are not very far from having our own F1 Track,Bangalore is a Great Place to Host a F1 Circuit, New Airport will be Ready by next Year which can hold many Jumbos which you people were talking about . I hope to see Karun Chodok, or even Narain K racing for some Major team in F1.
Hope that i dont have to go to Other Countries to Watch F1 live in Action……

Looks like a long time since ppl posted their comments here… Well, most of you must already be aware… However, for those who always lag behind the news… F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone on 15 November 2007 announced that F1 Track will be built at Greater Noida in UP bordering Delhi.
