Results of FIA F1 fans survey
The people have spoken! And the FIA have not doctored the results! (at least, we hope
).
You might remember a couple of months ago we let you know about the now annual FIA Formula 1 survey. The FIA have published the results, in a horrific Flash format, and it’s available on their website.
Some highlights I take from it:
- 91% of respondants were male
- 2/3 of fans claimed to have watched the sport for more than 10 years (I’d say that anyone who goes to the bother of filling out the million question survey was self selecting as a strong F1 fan)
- 30% of fans picked Ferrari as their favourite team, lower than I expected considering how much the support is weighted towards them
- Fewer than 1 in 10 fans had any interest in subscribing to highlights via their mobiles. The survey authors then add a self serving line to say “this is perhaps a reflection of lack of familiarity with the new offering”. To the authors I’d like to add, screw you, we’re not stupid and we realise you will want us to pay a small fortune for some highlight clips.
- 87% of fans use a dedicated F1 website to access information. As the survey took place online, I could have told them that myself
- 39% thought F1 had become safe, with 33% saying the opposite.
- Half of fans thought that this years racing was more competitive
- 73% thought qualifying had improved this year (yes it has, well done FIA)
- Respondants were big into demanding more information on F1 technology
- 92% of fans wanted more emphasis on fashion events and parties held during the GP weekend (only joking, relax)
- Most fans use the Internet and F1 should get involved more in this area. So expect F1.com to visit Matts script archive for a forum or two
