Ide’s licence revoked.
May 10th, 2006
From here:
SUPER AGURI F1 TEAM confirms that the FIA Permit Office has retracted Yuji Ide’s Super License. He will therefore not be participating in any further official FIA Formula One World Championship events this year.
It is with sadness and regret that the team accepts this decision, however Aguri Suzuki and A.Company (Japan) shall continue to seek driving opportunities for Yuji and hopefully a path back into Formula One.
As a result, Franck Montagny will drive once again for the SAF1 Team at the forthcoming Spanish Grand Prix and the Monaco Grand Prix whilst discussions with a number of parties continue regarding the permanent positions of second race seat and third driver.
I think that’s a disgraceful decision by the FIA. They should have been putting pressure on SA to give Ide a proper seat, and more testing time. To revoke his (legitimately earned) licence means he can’t even be third driver. And there have been far worse race drivers over the years, let alone third drivers. Anyone remember Deletraz? Or Chanoch Nissany?
Talk about it on the F1 Forum.

I think that having him replaced as #2 driver would have been enough of a punishment. As Don says, this at least would have given him more time to practice. However, I can’t say I disagree with the decision totally. Sure, we had worse drivers in days gone by, but it is precisely because of this that we should be endevouring NOT to have them again.
Ide is 32. If he doesn’t have the awareness and race-craft to be in F1 at this stage in his career then he never will. He wont be missed in F1 although it is another example of the dispicable way the FIA goes about it’s business.

…….. lest they forget it was them through their parameters that he was issued his super-licence in the first place ???
Maybe they need to review the way these things are dished out ???

Nissany wasn’t that far in the past - only last year. I have no doubt we’ll see worse than Ide in a car before long.
They do need to review the criteria for issuing a super-licence (after all it still says F3000, and no mention of GP2 or RWS), but Ide earned his in F Nippon, and I don’t think that route should change considering how many decent drivers have appeared through that route.
It’s particularly unprofessional they way a week after suggesting he be rested they decided to effectively ban him.
