An ode to Suzuka 22 potential 2008 teams

Stoddart back in action?

March 28th, 2006

It appears that Paul Stoddart’s love story with F1 isn’t over yet. The Australian millionaire has lodged himself an entry for 2008 under the name “European Minardi F1 team Limited”.

The Australian aviation Entrepreneur also conceded that he had retained the rights to the Minardi name and the 2004 specification cars. Paul also claims that he is in a better position than anyone else, other than a current F1 team, to compete.

With Bernie setting the limit to twelve teams for the 2008 season, it would be interesting to watch as to who gets the final slot. It could be one of Dave Richards, Jean Alesi, Eddie Irvine or Paul Stoddart.

“We’ll see what happens. It might not happen but I miss F1 too badly at the moment. I might not get a slot but it will be interesting to see who does” says Paul Stoddart.

Let the Minardi dream continue..

I think the key point is who the F1 will allocate the final slot too.
With McLaren having an existing factory already and Alesi being touted as boss they would seem to have a very strong package in place.
Who knows maybe they will start to have pre-qualifying.
With all of this interest maybe the value of Midland has gone up - simply as a result of supply and demand.

I can’t see Midland continuing for long either. I’d say there’ll be a turnover of at least 2 existing teams by 2008.

Come back Paul, all is forgiven. What am I talking about ? He hasn’t done anything wrong. He got out and probably made a healthy profit. The sport definitely needs people like him in it. Apart from Flavio now there are no personalities, and the quicker that waste of space, Midland, go, the better. What a vacuous personality-free boring team they are. And to think of what they replaced.

and what “IF” [and that's a big if], as the roumers have it, Schumacher Sr decides to start his own team once his deal with Ferrari is over ? Undoubtly he will be given the highest priority over any other.

But given the current scenario, I think Stoddart’s chances of returning are quiet high.
