Today: Power Rankings

After months of pre-season testing, all the teams have had a chance to fine-tune their ‘06 packages. They have all had a chance to set fast times at some point or another. Below is a look at how they all ’seem’ to match up against one another. This power ranking has been based purely on how the teams have performed in pre-season so if it turns out to be wildly off the mark you can let that be a lesson - Do not trust pre-season testing times. However, it does give some idea of the relative pace, once it is taken with a pinch of salt. This ranking will be updated based on the performance of each individual driver and team after each grand prix this season.

Pre-season testing is FINITO !! ……..

……… and you know what that means. It means next stop Bahrain. It also means there’s only a few pre-race practice sessions for teams to get right what they couldn’t get right in the previous months of testing. Ferrari are the obvious exception to all of this. They plan to test again today.

Anyhoo, on to the times.

Anthony Davidson was the star of the show in Valencia when he went nearly a second faster than anyone else (read : Kimi Raikkonen) had managed up to that point. Red Bull put in their fastest time which actually put them above Kovalainen’s time in the Renault the other day, but once again Toyota somehow failed to hit the heights and both race drivers were left at the back of the timesheets.

Valencia
Pos Driver Team Time Laps
1. Davidson Honda (M) 1:08.540 70
2. Coulthard Red Bull-Ferrari (M) 1:10.371 72
3. R.Schumacher Toyota (B) 1:12.064 79
4. Trulli Toyota (B) 1:12.380 78

Over in Italy, Ferrari were once again hampered by bad weather. Michael Schumacher was the only man on the track. He was using the new 248 and completed 43 laps.

Mugello
Pos Driver Team Time Laps
1. M.Schumacher Ferrari (B) 1:29.047 43

Schumacher will be testing today in Ferrari’s attempt to get some worthwhile tests in before jetting off for Bahrain.
