How about those 2006 pairings eh ???? February excites me !

Testing times 16th Feb

February 17th, 2006

from Valencia
1 H. Kovalainen Renault Michelin 01:10.618 140
2 JP. Montoya McLaren Michelin 01:10.657 50
3 G. Fisichella Renault Michelin 01:10.938 118
4 N. Rosberg Williams Bridgestone 01:11.139 78
5 K. Räikkönen McLaren Michelin 01:11.174 66
6 D. Coulthard Red Bull Michelin 01:11.217 73
7 A. Wurz Williams Bridgestone 01:12.233 119
8 C. Albers Midland F1 Bridgestone 01:12.778 46
9 A. Sutil Midland F1 Bridgestone 01:17.912 27

On this evidence at least, McLaren seem to be able to get the laptimes. Whether or not the car will last is another thing. We see that the MacDaddy’s put in fewer laps than all of the other top runners with only the mighty Midland testing less. Having said that, it is encouraging to see Midland getting to within 1.5 seconds of Coulthard. Williams continue their impressively consistent times by staying within half a second of the top time.

from Barcelona
1 N. Heidfeld BMW Michelin 01:15.928 87
2 J. Villeneuve BMW Michelin 01:16.884 119

Heidfeld continues his form of edging out Villeneuve and goes 4/10ths quicker than yesterday. Lorra lorra laps done too as Cilla would say !

from Sakhir, Bahrain
1 F. Massa Ferrari Bridgestone 01:30.567 90
2 J. Button Honda Michelin 01:31.254 133
3 V. Liuzzi Scuderia Toro Rosso Michelin 01:31.381 56
4 R. Barrichello Honda Michelin 01:31.590 100
5 S. Speed Scuderia Toro Rosso Michelin 01:32.623 62
6 M. Schumacher Ferrari Bridgestone 01:32.919 21

Now this tells me that Ferrari are doing nicely, but it also tells me that Toro Rosso are a damn site quicker than Midland and Super Aguri are going to like. For Liuzzi to be 0.13 seconds slower than one of the most impressive pre-season cars after completing 80 laps fewer tells me the FIA will probably start receiving complaints from the bah-humbuggers soon. Barrichello not far off Button’s pace. Let’s hope for Speed’s sake he was given a development programme today.

Massa was driving the F2004-V10 & Schumacher the 248. There is no evidence yet that Ferrari is doing particularly well.
