Mosley sets deadline for manufacturers
A feast of Mad Max pronouncements:
First up Max says entries for 2008 will have to be in very soon - from the BBC (great pic with that article - just missing the horns):
At a meeting on 22 March, Mosley will propose teams sign up for 2008 within 10 days or risk losing their place.
Hopefully the manufacturers will call his bluff - there are no other teams with advanced plans for entry.
Then to further alienate the manufacturers Max wants to prevent engine development for 3 years. Which makes the sport pointless for the purposes of training engineers. And what happens if a team produces a shit engine? They’ll just have to lose for the following three years. A horrific idea that will further hasten the demise of the sport. It’d make it even worse than a spec series.
From autosport.com:
Under the scheme, manufacturers would have to lodge their engine design with the FIA by next June and then that specification of power-unit would be frozen for 2008, 2009 and 2010 - meaning no development at all for three years.
Reliability problems, however, could be addressed as long as the work did not result in a performance advantage.
Max claims it’ll save some random number he pulled out of his ass.
And then he suggests (from ITV-F1):
that the FIA is considering introducing a system of promotion and relegation for F1’s best and worst performers.
A stupid idea that I can only see working if F1 is so close to GP2 that the promoted teams are not disadvantaged.
Make the most of 2006/2007, because come 2008 the sport is dead unless Max cops the fuck on and starts looking out for the good of the sport instead of just playing politics.
