Korea decides against F1
Interesting that the Koreans have conducted a feasibility study on hosting an F1 race and the Korean government has decided against it. See the grandprix.com report.
A lot of these “emerging” nations (for whatever reason, political, economic) have decided that F1 races are a way to market their country. This has meant some superb facilities, but I think somewhat soulless racing - China, Bahrain, Malaysia are good examples. The pressure to host these “prestige” races have impacted on the traditional tracks, which were built for motor racing rather than political reasons. Spa is the perfect example.
While it’s great to see new supporters of F1, I think it would be good if this decision was repeated in other emerging countries, and some of the more established and historic circuits gained more leverage in F1.
